The President’s Report – April 1st, 2008

First order of business getting in your membership dues, we need to send the money in so please get squared up with Treasurer Mark.

A Random Act of Kindness… Last Thursday I arrived at the Center to meet with our teachers to discuss the need for a Head Teacher, physical education teacher and the preparation for our 5th Annual Commencement exercises. I was introduced to Glenn Slater from Calgary, Canada and his companions, Sandra Sabeijon & Yolly. These ladies were the ones actually responsible for taking Glenn to our Center. Glenn had been looking for a charity to donate to and he fell in love with the Angeles Bahay Bata Center for Street Children. He ordered food from Jollibee for all of the kids and staff while he toured our Center. Glenn decided to donated P50,000.00 cash to our Center because he was so touched. Glenn is back in Canada and I promised him that we would prepare a Certificate of Appreciation and mail it to him. I also told him that we would do something special for him when he returned. I send my sincerest thanks to Sandra and Yolly for bringing Glenn to our Center for a visit. Now that’s what I call “An Act of Random Kindness.”

Rtns Ron Nethercutt, Jim Sebree and Joel Dungca traveled to Malaysia for PRESETS so maybe they can give us a report. DISTAS 08 is coming up and will be hosted by RC Mabalacat…Maybe Rtn Ron can give us an update.

Our 5th Annual Commencement & Recognition Day was a tremendous success. We had 10 Graduates along with 13 students receiving High Academic Honor and Special Awards. The parents were beaming as were the students. Congratulations to all of our wonderful and gifted students. It was a very special and heart-warming event which seems to get better every year. We give our thanks to our wonderful and highly talented teachers who put the whole thing together. On the downside, this is another event involving our kids that, again, was poorly attended by the Rotarians. We raise millions of pesos and spend countless of hours trying to make this event possible, but it is not important enough for our membership to attend.

Foundation Pres Joey Pineda, Doc Froi Canlas, Rtn Carl Chiulli and I met with our Social Worker Divine on Saturday at Divine Shepherd to discuss her option to resign. We were able to resolve most of the issues that she had with the Center and convinced her to continue her employment with the Center. A committee was formed to look into some of the issues concerning the Center and is made up of Joey Pineda, Froilan Canlas, Carl Chiulli and myself. Further reports will be forthcoming as this is a combined effort of the Foundation and Club Board of Directors.

We will be presenting the rational for hiring another teacher for the Center to enhance our Physical Education Program and a Head Teacher to replace Alvin Coronel who has resigned effective March 31, 2008. We also need to discuss the hiring of an Administrator for the Center to coordinate the daily activities.

I have asked VP Joel to call a meeting of the Rotarians he has selected for his Board. We all need to get behind him and help Joel in getting ready for the transition. Joel is going to make a Great President and help elevate our Club to greater heights. We’ll be there for you, VP Joel, you can count on us.

Please let me know who will be attending DISCON in Baguio on April 18-20 so that we can coordinate with Sec. Rey for the escort.

My apologies for missing the meeting last week, but I was at the Honors Recognition Day for my two daughters, Smiley & Nicole, for Narciso School. I am one proud Papa.

That’s all folks, ….President Victor
